Conflict and disasters are very dangerous to human life. When they strike in any locality, they leave economic, social and environmental scars. In the presence of these calamities, people lose their lives and property and the survivors are forced to seek asylum in another location or country actually with empty hands since they lack the time and opportunity to pick their belongings at the time of their departure to secure their dear lives.
The on-going political turmoil in the Democratic Republic of Congo has continued to force the residents of Congo to seek asylum in Uganda. Bundibugyo being at the border of Uganda and DR Congo, there continues to be a high influx of refugees from DR Congo to Bundibugyo, western Uganda.
Bundibugyo district in western Uganda is continuing to be a haven for refugees from DR Congo. It is a host community currently hosting over 15447 number of forced migrants at Bubukwanga transit camp. More than 600 refugees enter Bundibugyo per week as war escalates in DR Congo.
Currently, some refugees are scattered in Busunga and Nyahuka towns. They are serviving on God’s mercy. Some are sleeping in Church buildings like Busunga Calvary Evangelical Church and others just spend the nights sleeping outside the buildings, in verandas. Generally life is very complicated for these forced immigrants from DR Congo. It is hard for them to be certain of whether they are going to take a meal or not, only God knows this. Both old and young are facing a lot of political hardship. No food, no water, no medication, no clothes, no household utensils, no basic income. They are lacking all these basic needs of life. They need urgent relief-aid to keep their lives on.
Life in the camp is absolutely hard for these refugees. They are facing toughest challenges related to food shortage, poor feeding which is resulting into severe malnutrition in children under 5, medical challenges, absence of education, lack of clothes, lack of economic means to generate income, lack of basic household necessities(bed items, cooking utensils, plates cups and so much more). The Congolese refugees settling at Bubukwanga transit camp are stranded. Their needs are overwhelming in the camp and they constantly keep worrying and ever longing to get relief assistance from humanitarian agencies.
